Lekan Akande: I Don’t Want To Be Involved With Fuji Music Like My Father Obesere

Lekan Akande is the son of the popular Fuji star, Abass Akande Obesere.  Lekan resides in Dublin and he’s currently a second year student of Online Marketing at Griffith College in Dublin, Ireland.

Lekan Akande’s love for music led him to become involved in music promotion, and in 2013, he established his own record label called R-Entertainment, signing on 2 Nigerian-born Dublin-based artists, Beezy and Sajan.

In a recent interview with Punch, he said his involvement in Hip-hop and not Fuji like his father is based on his desire to be different, even if he is still very interested in all genre of music.

“I did not want to be involved with Fuji music because my great-grand father was a Fuji musician same as my father. Two of my father’s younger brothers are also Fuji musicians. I did not toe that path because I wanted to be different and I always think outside the box. I do not want to repeat the things that my father has done, I want to do things my own way. I think it makes a lot of sense to do things my way with the knowledge I have,” he said.

Asked about the possibility of having his father as an act on his label, Lekan said it is not feasible either now or in the future. “No, I am not going to sign my father on my record label. He is doing his thing and so am I. He is too big for me to sign on to my record label.”
