Some cult members on Monday allegedly went on a rampage around the Jakande, Osopa London and Agungi areas of Lekki. They were said to have robbed motorists and destroyed cars that were within the area where the rampage went on.

The Nation gathered that the riot was occasioned by the clash being the suspected Aiye and Eiye cultist groups which started on Sunday night.

However, this was not the first time these cult members would clash, causing havoc on innocent people as residents disclosed that the rampage surged to other vicinities, which hoodlums took advantage of to attack road users on Monday night with cutlasses, guns and bottles.

The Nation also gathered that hoodlums shattered windscreens, they threw bottles into commercial buses and were hitting road users with their cutlasses. The news of the attacks quickly spread on social media, with warnings indicating that people should avoid the route.

David Olubaj, a twitter user said the situation was scary and felt like a zombie apocalypse.

“I was scared. Then, I got to Agungi and I saw more boys with sticks and cutlasses on my road. These boys were attacking all the vehicles.

“They threw a bottle at the vehicle I was in. I cannot imagine what they would have done to those danfo buses with no doors and their passengers.”

Another twitter user @raezywinston while advising people to keep off the route, said the hoodlums blocked a part of the highway and were robbing and attacking people as the police were doing almost nothing to calm the situation.

He said:

“Police and SARS are harassing innocent and unarmed people every day but there are steady rival cult clashes in many parts of Lagos and nothing is ever done! Innocent people get caught in the crossfire. We just survive one and continue life. How much worse could it get?”

However, the police have assured the public of calm in the vicinity. They also indicated that about 10 suspects have arrested.
