The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has stirred mixed reactions from the public as he came on Arise TV this morning to deny claims of the CCTV cameras at the Lekki tollgate being removed before the gunshot incident on Tuesday, October 20.

He stated that ” Nobody ordered the removal of cameras at the Lekki toll gate”.

He further added that the private company that runs the Lekki Toll gate concession switched off the lights on their own terms and due to the imposed curfew.

He said, ” Lagos has been the most peaceful part of the country for decades and we won’t throw that away just because of the ugliness happening.

” I am appealing to our citizens to speak up so we can get the youth and protesters off the street and order will be returned to the state.

” Once we see the streets are cleared up and all the agitation and high nerves have gone down, we might slow down the curfew by tomorrow or next tomorrow at the latest.

” Nobody ordered the removal of cameras at the Lekki toll gate. The MD of LCC said because of the curfew, they made the decision to take out installations. The cameras you saw are not security or motion cameras, they are laser cameras for vehicles.

” The security cameras are still available and we are using them for our security investigations.

” The private company that run the Lekki toll gate concession switched off the lights and they reported that they did so because of the imposed curfew.

” The fire department and safety services tried to help but they met with the violence. They had to retreat for the safety of their own men “.
