The four-time world’s best player was pulled out of the game in the 10th minute of the first half after complaining of trouble with his left knee. He was replaced by youngster, Munir el Haddadi.

According to a statement on Barcelona’s website, “In one of the first incidents of the game, in the third minute, the Argentine went down injured after attempting a shot with his left foot inside the Las Palmas six-yard box.

“At the moment of contact the Barça player’s left knee collided with the opposition defender Pedro Bigas.”

Uruguayan striker, Luis Suarez scored both goals for Barcelona in the encounter, with strikes in the 25th and 54th minute.

Las Palmas striker, Jonathan Viera scored an 88 minute consolation goal in a match that also saw Barcelona’s Brazilian import, Neymar losing a 67th-minute penalty.

The injury blow to Messi compunds Barcelona’s injury worries, considering that midfielder, Rafinha Alcantara is already out of the season due to an injury he sustained at the beginning of the season.
