Liverpool’s Luis Suarez Punches Opponent during Uruguay’s World Cup qualifier (Watch)

Luis Suarez caused more controversy after appearing to jab at an opponent he was tussling with last night.

Cameras picked up the Uruguay forward striking Chile’s Gonzalo Jara in the face in a World Cup qualifier.

Defender Jara – who plays for West Brom – flinches but otherwise does not react as the hand connects with his face.

Home fans at the stadium responded to the clash by chanting a vulgar song about the Liverpool star.

However, this latest incident is just the latest in a long line of controversies that has dogged the 26-year-old’s career.

Suarez was suspended for biting an opponent while still at Ajax, was dismissed for deliberate hand ball in the 2010 World Cup and was infamously banned for eight games for racist remarks made to Manchester United defender Patrice Evra in 2011.

Chile won the crucial South American qualifier 2-0 to take a massive step towards qualification for Brazil 2014.
