Looted Funds: Emir Lamido Sanusi Breaks Silence

The Emir of Kano, HRH Muhammadu Sanusi II has spoken up about looted funds, urging the federal government to not only recover the funds, but also prosecute the looters.

Sanusi said this while speaking at the graduation lecture at the National Defence College on Deregulation of the Downstream Oil Sector and Nigeria’s Economic Development for Course 24 participants of the National Defence College

Sanusi rejected calls from those saying government should just recover money, insisting that government should also put them in jail.

He pointed out that this would serve as a deterrent to anyone who takes up a government position, explaining that even if they helped someone else make money illegally, they should go to jail.

He commended the government for the deregulation of the oil industry and the liberalization of the foreign exchange market.

Sanusi noted that government successes in the fight against corruption and its progress in fighting insurgency had demonstrated its commitment to economic development.
