Machete attack: 2 men arraigned, granted N400, 000 bail

Two men — Ojo Akin and Obafemi Oke — who were charged with attacking people with machete and destroying some property, were on Wednesday released on bail of N400, 000 by an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused — Akin, 31, and Oke, 27 — are facing charges of assault and causing damage to property.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade told the court that the accused committed the offences on Oct. 23 at Igbehin Street in Ado Ekiti.

He alleged that the accused assaulted a man, Isiaka Jimoh, by cutting his right hand with a machete.

Okunade also alleged that the men maliciously damaged one grinding machine valued at N10,000 and two crates of egg valued at N2,000, belonging to Mrs Alice Johnson.

In addition, the accused damaged a motorcycle, property of Mr Kehinde Adeyemi.
The offences contravened Sections 355 and 451 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

The duo pleaded not guilty to the charges and their lawyer, Mr Busuyi Ayorinde, urged the court to grant them bail, promising they will not jump bail.

Chief Magistrate Adesoji Adegboye granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000 each with one surety each in like sum and adjourned the case until Dec. 6 for hearing.
