Malaysian Airport Warns Owners Of Abandoned Jets To Remove Them

When a car is parked in an unauthorised area, authorities may have the owner fined or have the car towed.

Something of that nature may be about to happen to owners of three mumbo jets parked in Malaysia’s main airport, a notice placed in several Malaysian newspapers have confirmed.

According to Associated Press, authorities of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport said it had no choice but to issue the warning to yet-to-be identified owners of three Boeing 747-200s who have abandoned the planes for at least a year.

The General Manager of the airport, Zainol Mohamed Isa said on Wednesday that the airport had no choice but to issue the warning so that it could recover debts (landing and parking fees) owned to Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad.

He however did not disclose the amount of the debt owed.

Isa added that all efforts to locate the owners of the planes have failed, stating that the airport had the right to dispose of the planes if the owners failed to come forward to claim them within 14 days.

While saying that the warning was not an uncommon occurrence, he said it was a normal occurrence in airports around the world.
