Man, 22, stabs friend in the eye at pub, gets N100, 000 bail

A 22-year-old man, Abiodun Abayomi, who allegedly stabbed his friend with a broken bottle in the eye at a bar, was on Monday before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of assault.

A fight broke out at a bar between the two friends over sharing of money, according to the prosecution.

“They were drinking beer and suddenly they started arguing over how to share some money.

“The accused broke the bottle of beer before him and stabbed his friend, Alaba Akinleye, in his left eye.

“He fled the scene immediately, but was caught in his hiding,” Police Prosecutor Akpan Ikem told the court.

Ikem said the accused committed the offence on June 17 at Magbon area of Badagry.

The offence contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty.

Chief Magistrate Jimoh Adefioye granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000 and two sureties in like sum who must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned until July 31. (NAN)
