A 63-year-old British man, Eugene Courtney, has died of COVID-19 related complications 18 days after overcoming prostate cancer.

His 61-year-old wife, Kim Courtney disclosed that her husband died at the Royal Lancashire Infirmary in the UK, Daily Mail reported.

She explained that her late husband was certified free of cancer on January 4 but took ill with COVID-19 just two days later, and was rushed to hospital in an ambulance.

He was said to have been placed on a ventilator after his condition worsened and his kidneys began to collapse.

Eventually, the great-grandfather died on January 25.

Explaining how it all happened, Kim, his wife of 13 years, said, “He was so ill. I’ve never seen anyone like that before. It was the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to go through.

“I kept telling myself he was going to make it but when I walked into the ICU for the first time and I saw all the patients I was terrified.

“I saw him laid on the bed. All I could see was his body which was going up and down on his bed which was the only thing keeping him alive – but he wasn’t alive really.

“I gave him lots of kisses and told him he was wonderful and told him I’d always love him.”
