Police in Asaba have arrested a man in connection with the assassination attempt on the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ochei, at a political meeting last weekend.
Explosives were planted under the seat of the Speaker and exploded whilst the Speaker was not in the seat. The explosion sent the seat flying vertically in the air and the impact shattered the legs of a lady seated next to the chair.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Lucky Uyabeme, said that the Police Command was still on the lookout for other suspects, and had intensified investigations into the matter.
The Police confirmed it was indeed an assassination attempt.
