A man, Gbenga Ayotunde, has committed suicide in Ondo after killing his mother in an argument.

He was said to have killed his mother Ajimo, 57, during a struggle that resulted from a heated argument.

The cause of the argument remains unknown.

According to a relation, Gbenga killed his mother in Akure, the state capital, on Thursday and fled to their family house in Oyinmo Quarters, Ikare-Akoko in Akoko North-East LGA, where he committed suicide on Friday.

Ajimo was said to have three children for Gbenga’s father before the couple split up and she remarried and gave birth to two more.

“Gbenga, after killing his mother in Akure on Thursday, escaped to Ikare Akoko where he stayed with his grandmother at Oyinmo Quarters.

“When he suspected that efforts were being made to hand him over to the police, he sneaked into the kitchen at about 3am on Friday to hang himself while everybody in the house was asleep.

“It was a relation, who wanted to go to use the restroom in the morning, that saw his lifeless body dangling and raised the alarm,” the relation said.
