A 40-year-old man, Rasaq Sodiq, who allegedly obtained N350,000 under false pretence from Abayomi Olowolokomo, was on Tuesday charged before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

The accused, who resides at No. 21, Awoyemi St., Iyana-Ilogbo, Ota in Ogun, is facing a two- count charge of stealing and obtaining money under false pretence.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 16 at about 1 p.m., at Alasia Street, Ota.

Gbesi said that the accused collected N350,000 from the complainant on the pretext of assisting him to get admission into one of the country’s public universities, an agreement Abayomi did not fulfil.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened sections 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O. Banwo, granted the defendant N200,000 bail with one surety in like sum.

He said that the sureties should be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed.

Banwo also directed that the sureties should swear to affidavit of means and produce evidence of payment of one year tax to the state government.

In addition, the surety should submit four his/her recent passport photographs to the court and the address of the surety should be verified by the police.

The case was adjourned to April 11 for hearing. (NAN)
