Man docked over theft of 2 cell phones in church

The Police on Friday arraigned one Daniel Chikezie in a Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja for allegedly stealing two cell phones in church.

The defendant of Kubwa, Abuja, was docked over a charge of theft.

The Prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that one Jennifer Abojunde reported the matter at the Area Command Headquarters, Kubwa, Abuja on Feb. 3.

He said while the complainant was worshiping at Redeem Christian Church, Arab road, Abuja, the defendant, who also pretended to be worshiping, stole her two cell phones.

Olanipekun said the cell phones, which were valued at N80, 000, were recovered from the defendant during police investigations.

He said the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Judge, Ibrahim Balarabe, granted the defendant N100, 000 bail with one reliable surety residing within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the matter until Feb. 27 for hearing.(NAN).
