Man kills girlfriend with knife for picking another man’s call

A man in Bauchi identified simply as “Solomon” has allegedly killed his girlfriend, Patience Zakkari with a knife in a fit of jealousy.

The incident occurred in a house located at Gwallameji area of Bauchi metropolis around 1.30 am on Friday.

The suspect was said to have stabbed the victim with a knife after she picked another man’s call at night in his presence.

Zakkari, a National Diploma (ND) graduate from the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, died from the knife injury sustained from the attack, The Herald gathered.

A neighbour, who preferred anonymity, said that the victim narrated the details of the incident to him before she died.

“She narrated to me before she died that everything happened at about 1:30 am on Friday morning.

“She said she received a phone call from just an ordinary male friend and her boyfriend (Solomon) got jealous, started harassing her verbally, and that as she was trying to explain to him, he pounced on her and started hitting her.

“She took a bottle, hit him on the head in self-defence because the beating was too much for her, and the man picked up a knife in response and stabbed her at the back.

“She said she lost a lot of blood before she was rushed to a clinic in the morning where she was treated and brought back home in the evening, when she narrated the incident to me.

“Unfortunately, when I left the place, I heard that the wound degenerated and she was rushed to a hospital where she eventually gave up,” News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted the source as saying.

It was gathered that the suspect has since gone into hiding to avoid arrest.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kamal Abubakar, confirmed the incident.

He added that the owner of the clinic where the victim died has been arrested, while the command has swung into action to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
