A 30-year-old Indian man, identified as Akhilesh Rawat, has been arrested after parading the head of his wife to terrified onlookers, who he killed and beheaded.

According to report by the New York Post, Akhilesh and his 26-year-old wife, Rajani, who he has been married to for over two years, engaged in an argument which turned violent and led to her death.

Hindustan Times reported that the suspect who allegedly attacked his wife with a sharp-edged weapon and beheaded her, walked for about a mile in Uttar Pradesh, northern India, with Rajana’s head before he was eventually accosted and taken to Jahangirabad police station.

According to the report, the police Superintendent, Arvind Chaturvedi, confirmed the gruesome attack and stated that “We have recovered the weapon from the accused’s home.”

He further stated that Alkhilesh’s wife had been staying with her parents after the couple lost their three-month-old baby to an illness a few days ago.

He said;

“The victim was living at her parents’ house after her daughter’s death and Akhilesh managed to bring her home four days ago.”

“A case has been registered against the accused. We are interrogating him to know as to how and why he killed his wife.”
