A man, Prince Owabie aka J-boy, is currently in police custody for allegedly murdering and burying his pregnant girlfriend, Betha Ogbede, in his one-room apartment in Rumuepirikom community of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State.

The suspect allegedly committed the act last Sunday when the victim visited him, although he was picked up on Tuesday after Ogbede’s relative lodged a missing person’s complaint.

After his arrest, Owabie reportedly admitted to police that the girl visited him but left some time after and he hadn’t heard from her since.

However, the police were said to have been dissatisfied with the suspect’s response, which prompted a search of his apartment.

The Guardian quoted the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Rumuepirikom Police Station, CSP Emmanuel Wagbara, as saying, “We were not satisfied with his response. So, early yesterday morning, we decided to conduct a search in and around his house and there we discovered a shallow grave in his room. It was then he confessed to us that the girl was buried in the grave.”

The suspect’s neighbours were said to have described him as a woman beater, who usually beat up his girlfriends.
