A 23-year-old man, Umar Faruq, was remanded in Ikoyi Prisons in Lagos on Friday for allegedly stabbing his colleague to death.

Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Adegite of the Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, ordered the remand of Faruq in prison, pending the outcome of an advice sought from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions.

Faruq, who gave no fixed address, faces a charge of murder.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the plea of the accused was not taken after the charge was read to him.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Oladele Adebayo, had told the court that the offence was committed on April 10 at about 11.10 p.m. at Alaba Rago in Ojo, near Lagos.

He said that the accused stabbed one Adam Aliu with a screwdriver in his forehead leading to Aliu’s death.

The offence contravenes Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Adegbite adjourned the matter until May 29 for mention. (NAN)
