Manchester United has reportedly failed to conclude an extension deal with Shanghai Shenhua over Odion Ighalo’s stay.

Both clubs had been in talks for days over a new loan deal for Odion Ighalo who first signed for Manchester United back in January transfer window.

According to The Sun, the 30-year-old will head back to Shanghai Shenhua following the conclusion of his loan as United were unable to announce an extension before his current loan agreement expired on Sunday night.

Sportsmail reports that Ighalo’s loan fee has been a problem for Manchester United and a new deal has not yet been agreed between the two clubs.

Ighalo’s agent, Atta Aneke, revealed the clubs had discussed a loan extension until the end of January 2021, when the 30-year-old would return to Shanghai.  But no agreement had been made before Sunday’s deadline.

Odion Ighalo made a great impression after scoring four goals in eight games, providing an assist as well in the Europa League as he won over the United fans.

The Sun claims he has been offered a fresh contract worth £400,000-per-week in China. United originally wanted to make his loan permanent, but were told to pay £20million in order to do so.
