It took just 20 minutes for the Cityzens to break them down with Nicholas Otamendi rising highest to meet a delightful David Silva’s cross and header to nod home for the first goal.

Sergio Aguero made it 2-0 before the break with his 11th goal of the season, finding space six yards out to turn in Kyle Walker’s pull-back.

The Argentine got his second and the team’s third when he connected with a Riyad Mahrez pass to leave Saints goalkeeper, Alex McCarthy helpless as the striker deceived a low one through his legs for City’s number 9’s 11th goal of the season in all competitions.

Jack Stephens pulled one back for the visitors before the end for a consolation to the traveling fans who were chanting ‘we’ve had a shot.’

City are now poised to defend the Carabao cup. They’ve won in the last two seasons as they hope for a favourable draw, not that they need the favour.
