Manchester Derby Ends City’s Way

1 Min Read

Manchester City defeated city rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford to boost its prospects of winning the EPL title.

It was a battle of wits between managers Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, with the former Bayern Munich boss carrying the day courtesy of a 1-2 victory.

Second-placed United were missing midfield maestro Paul Pogba who could have provided much-needed cover against the rampaging City side.

Romelu Lukaku was a shadow of the fearsome striker many had seen at Everton and in the early part of the season for United. The two City goals came courtesy of errors from the Belgium international.

In the second City goal, he failed to properly clear a ball inside United’s 18-yard box, allowing the ball to ricochet off the back of Victor Lindelof and unto the feet of on-rushing Nicolas Otamendi, after David Silva had also benefitted from another of his errors to convert City’s opener.

With the win, Manchester City opens up an 11-point gap against second-placed United after the 16th week of games.
