Maryam Sanda was sentenced to death for killing her husband

Justice Yusuf Halilu of an FCT High Court on Monday sentenced Maryam Sanda to death by hanging for killing her husband.

The court convicted Sanda for the killing of Bilyaminu Bello, the son of former PDP National Chairman, Haliru Bello, in Abuja on November 19, 2017.

The judge held that the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt that the convict stabbed her husband and tried to conceal her action by claiming he fell on a broken bottle.

“It has been said that thou shall not kill. Whoever kills in cold blood shall die in cold blood,” the judge said while reading his judgement.

“Maryam Sanda should reap what she has sown.

“It is blood for blood”.

Justice Halilu ordered that the convict be held in Suleja Correctional Centre until she exhausts her right of appeal.

Maryam Sanda and her relatives, who were in court, broke down in tears immediately the judge pronounced his judgement.
