Mbappe Breaks Di Stéfano’s 71-Year LaLiga Record in Debut Season for Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappe etched his name into Real Madrid history on Wednesday night, breaking a long-standing club record previously held by legendary forward Alfredo Di Stéfano.
The French superstar scored his 28th LaLiga goal of the season during Real Madrid’s dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Mallorca, surpassing Di Stéfano’s record for the most goals scored in a debut LaLiga season for the club. Di Stéfano had held the milestone for 71 years after netting 27 goals in the 1953–54 campaign.
Mbappe, who joined from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, achieved the feat in just his 32nd league appearance for Los Blancos. With two matches remaining in the season, the 25-year-old has a chance to further extend his tally.

It wasn’t an easy night for Carlo Ancelotti’s men at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix. Real Madrid fell behind early after a goal from Martin Valjent in the 11th minute. Mbappe equalized in the 68th minute, keeping his side in the match before substitute Jacobo Ramon scored a dramatic 95th-minute winner to seal all three points and keep their slim title hopes alive.
The win came just days after Madrid’s disappointing defeat to rivals Barcelona, which left them four points adrift in the title race. Barcelona are set to face Espanyol in the Catalan derby on Thursday, and a victory would confirm them as LaLiga champions. However, any slip-up could see the title race extend to the final rounds.
Alfredo Di Stéfano remains one of Real Madrid’s all-time greats, having scored 306 goals in 392 appearances. Only Cristiano Ronaldo (450), Karim Benzema (354), and Raul (323) have found the net more times for the Spanish giants.
Mbappe’s record-breaking debut season is another milestone in what has already been a sensational start to his career in Spain.
