Award-winning gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has filed a ₦1 billion defamation lawsuit against social media content creator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
This legal action comes after VDM accused Chinwo of diverting $345,000 from performances without paying her former record label, EeZee Conceptz, owned by Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu (EeZee Tee).
Chinwo Demands Retraction and Apology
Filed by her legal representative, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the lawsuit seeks the following:
- A court order compelling VDM to delete his statements.
- A public retraction and apology for the allegedly false and defamatory remarks.
To support her claims, Chinwo’s legal team has attached documents—including emails and payment receipts—proving that VDM’s allegations are baseless.
Legal Battles Continue
This lawsuit comes amid ongoing legal troubles between EeZee Tee and Mercy Chinwo. A Federal High Court in Lagos previously upheld an arrest warrant against EeZee Tee for alleged fraudulent conversion, with his arraignment set for March 6, 2025.
Olajengbesi described VDM’s statements as “libelous, malicious, spiteful, and grossly defamatory,” arguing that they falsely portrayed Chinwo in a damaging light despite VDM not being directly involved in the dispute.
