Microsoft to stage mobile market comeback with Twin-Screen Duo devices

Microsoft will next year attempt a comeback into the mobile phone market when on Wednesday it unveiled the Twin-Screen Duo. A line of Surface devices with two “paper-thin” screen that can folds like a notepad and can fit into pants pockets. The device can handle telephony, messaging and handle any phone operation but Microsoft chief product officer Panos Panay was quick to point out that the device is still a Surface device. He had this to say:

“You are going to talk about it as a phone, and I get that,” Microsoft chief product officer Panos Panay said of Twin-Screen Duo at a Surface event in New York City.

“You can text; you can write; you can do what you want, make no mistake this product is a Surface.”

Microsoft Windows phones lost in the mobile market a few years ago because it failed to attract enough developers interest to maintain its ecosystem. The tech giant was forced to pull the plug on Microsoft Windows mobile.

The device is part of line of products that will be released next year. The company also showcase Neo dual-screen version of its full Surface tablet, which like the Twin-Screen Duo will be release late next year.
