Adamawa state government on Wednesday, November 13, declared that it would pay N32,000 to workers beyond the N30,000 minimum wage recently approved by the federal government.
The government made this declaration through the state’s head of service, Edgar Amos, saying the N32,000 approved by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri would be paid to workers commencing with the salaries for November 2019.
The head of service added that the decision to increase the minimum wage was because the governor wanted to fulfil his campaign promise to the people that he would raise their pay if elected.

Amos declared: “The national minimum wage is N30,000 but the governor is going to pay N32,000 because that is his promise.”
Amos noted that discussions were still going on concerning the consequential adjustment for other levels of workers earning above the minimum wage. He said this discussion is going on between the state and the labour unions.
The Herald reported that the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Adamawa State Wing, expressed confidence that the incoming administration would pay N32,000 minimum wage to workers in the state.
Mr Rodney Nathan, Chairman of the state chapter, who commended President Muhammadu Buhari, for signing into law the N30,000 new National Minimum Wage for workers, however noted that the state workers were looking forward to receiving N32,000 as minimum wage.
Nathan said that the workers’ optimism was drawn from the Governor-elect, Ahmadu Fintiri’s electioneering promise to pay workers N32,000 minimum wage. He said that Fintiri, being a man of his words, would not renege on his promise.
He called on all teachers in the state to support the incoming administration in its vision to ameliorate the plight of teachers in particular and all workers in general.
The union leadership also urged the incoming administration to address some of the challenges faced by the teachers in the state.
