Committee Yet to Agree on New Minimum Wage – Labour

The organised labour has rejected the N22,500 new minimum wage offered by the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF).

The President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Wabba, made this known while briefing newsmen at the Labour House, Abuja on Wednesday.

Wabba said organised labour has also returned to its original demand of N66,500 as a result of the new twist of things by the governors and would no longer negotiate with the government over its demand.

He said that the N30,000 agreed upon by the Tripartite Negotiation Committee set up to look into the new minimum wage was a result of compromise and was a far cry from the original demand of N66,500.

Wabba wondered why the governors later came up with N22,500 when 21 states responded through a proper memoranda at the initial stage of the negotiation.
