Ministerial Screening: Boko Haram Activities Un-Islamic – Shittu

The ministerial nominee from Oyo state, Barr. Adebayo Shittu has described the activities of the Boko Haram insurgents as un-Islamic.

Shittu, who is a prominent Islamic scholar, said this while fielding questions from Senators during Tuesday’s screening of ministerial nominees on the floor of the Upper Chamber.

According to him, anybody could claim to be what they are not, and people should be addressed based on what they do and not on what they call themselves.

He said that a “person who calls himself a Christian and still visits Babalawo (herbalist) cannot be said to be a Christian, just as anyone who calls himself a Muslim and kills innocent souls is not a Muslim.”

The former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Oyo State noted that no one had the right to take the life of any person under any guise except a court of competent jurisdiction.

Furthermore, he averred that the antecedent of the terrorist group which involves murdering anyone who goes against their erroneous teachings shows that they are not Muslims.

Alhaji Shittu jokingly said that he would not wish to speak too much on the subject as he still had children and family to take care of.
