French Lique 1 side, Monaco has named former player, Thierry Henry as their new manager.

Henry began his professional career at Monaco, helping them win the 1997 league title.

The 41-year-old replaces Leonardo Jardim, who was sacked midweek after four years in charge, following a string of poor results that left the 2017 lique 1 winners in 18th position on the league table.

Henry ended his job as Belgium’s assistant manager on Friday, and is expected to land in Monaco today to finalise the deal.

Reacting to his appointment, Henry said, “I am very happy to come back to Monaco and extremely determined to meet the challenges ahead.

“I cannot wait to meet the players to start working together.”

He will be presented to the media on Monday, the club said.

After kicking off his career at the club, Henry went on to play for Juventus, Arsenal, Barcelona and New York Red Bulls.

He is the record goalscorer for Arsenal and won the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona in 2009.
