The impressive 4-0 thrashing of Chelsea at the beginning of the season has long been forgotten by the fans Manchester United as they endure the poorest start to a league season since the 1989/90 season and yet another loss to struggling Newcastle just adds a little more dent on already stained reputation.

Manchester United currently sits just above the drop zone on the log. Of course, we know they won’t finish there but for a club that spent so much in the summer with the aim of getting back into champions league places and maybe properly begin to compete for the league trophy again, this is definitely not the way to go.

19-year old Matty Longstaff could only have dreamed of a good start to life at the EPL but could never have imagined announcing himself against an opposition of the magnitude he came up against, against an 80-million pounds summer signing and a star-studded Manchester United’s defence the teenager kept his cool as he drilled home a lovely, low finish from outside the box to leave the Red Devils just two points above the bottom three and with two wins this season

The midfielder could have scored in the first half but rattled the crossbar with a thunderous 25-yard drive, while Fabian Schar flicked a header narrowly over from a corner.

United last won away from home in the league in February and extended that run to eight games with another lifeless and uninspiring performance on Sunday afternoon.

Marcus Rashford was unimpactful upfront while Juan Mata was unable to create anything in the middle of the pack.
