Move To Save 14 Nigerians on Death Row In Indonesia

Various human rights groups have petitioned the National Assembly over the on-going saga of 14 Nigerians that are awaiting death by execution in different prisons across Indonesia.

These groups, comprises World Alliance Against Terrorism, Violence and Inhuman Treatment and Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), also called on the Federal Government to put some weight on the matter at hand.

The President of World Alliance against Terrorism, Violence and Inhuman Treatment, Mr. Anthony Orunkoya, actually raised the call for the Federal Government intervention, over the weekend, at a news conference in Akure.

Orunkoya stated that the country’s National pride would be destroyed if the Federal Government closes its eyes on the plights of the 14 Nigerians that are awaiting death for various offences in Indonesia.

According to him, names of Nigerians on the death row are Martins Anderson alias ‘Bello’ from Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Kingsley Okonkwo from Onitsha in Anambra State, Obinna Nwajagu, a native of Ufuma town in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Silvester Nwolisa from Idemmili, Anambra State, Humphery Ejike who is a native of Isuku Ato in Abia State and Usman from Ihiala in Anambra State.

Others are Emmanuel Ihenjirika from Ebonyi State, Daniel Enemuo who hails from Udin town in Enugu State and Michael Titus, Okwudili Ayataeze,Oziazi Sibamda all from Idemmili.

The rest as given by the human rights activist include, Eugene Ape, a native of Nsukka in Enugu State as well as Fredric Luther and Denis Anumona both from Anambra State.

He told journalists that a petition has been written and sent to the two chambers of the National Assembly and the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), appealing and seeking the intervention of the Federal Government.

“A lot of petitions had been written in the past,” he added.
