Mrs Buhari, Abdulsalam, others pay condolence visit to Shinkafi’s family

The First Lady Mrs Aisha Buhari, on Saturday in Sokoto, condoled with the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, and the family of late Marafan Sokoto, Alhaji Umaru Shinkafi.

Speaking at the palace of the Sultan, Mrs Buhari described the death of Shinkafi as a great loss to Nigeria.

She  also prayed  to Almighty Allah for the  repose the soul of the deceased.

Responding, the Sultan thanked the president’s wife for the visit and for assisting the less privileged ones in the country.

Similarly, the former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, paid similar condolence visit to the Shinkafi family in Sokoto and prayed the Almighty  grant him Aljanna Firdaus.

He also prayed that He granted the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Other personalities who paid condolence visits to the family included former Defence Minister, Gen. Aliyu Gusau and PDP National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi.

Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State and Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo were also among those who paid condolence visit to the late Shinkafi family.

Born on Jan. 19, 1937 elder-statesman, businessman and retired policeman, Shinkafi died in a hospital in London on July 6, 2016.

Shinkafi, who held the traditional title of Marafan Sokoto, was a native of Zamfara.

He was a Federal Commissioner of Internal Affairs and a presidential aspirant in the Third Republic and had an extensive career in military intelligence. He went to Nigerian Law School and the University of Lagos.

His body was flown back to Nigeria on July 7 and buried at Abubakar III burial ground in Sokoto.
