Two Muslim brothers have reportedly announced their divorce intentions to their wives using an instant Messaging app, WhatsApp.

The American brothers sparked outrage after news of their divorce using the messaging app was made public.

The brothers who were relying on a clause in the Sharia law known as ‘Talaq’ simply sent the word ‘Divorce’ three times via the messaging app to their wives.

The ‘talaq’ clause in the Sharia law allows men to divorce their wives in a simple way which involves the men clearly telling their wives they want a divorce.

The women in question, Heena Fatima who had been married for four years to her husband, Syed Fayazuddin Hussain for four years revealed that she simply recieved the messages with the word ‘talaq’ written all three times.

The other brother, Mohammad Abdul Aqeel who was until the move married to Mehreen Noor also got a similar message.

Mehreen Noor said: “They (the two brothers) have made marriage a joke,’

The two women have however made a move to save their homes by lodging a complaint with the police compelling the divorce to be nullified as the divorce initiation conflicts with other processes as stipulated by the law.
