Mild drama ensued at a Customary Court sitting in Lagos on Monday when a woman asked the court to dissolve her 6-year marriage on allegation that her husband lied about being a graduate of University of Lagos, when in fact he was a mere secondary school leaver.

The woman, 38-year-old Nnenna Nwokonko, said her husband could not provide for her because of his lack of a genuine means of income occasioned by his lack of a university degree.

She also alleged threat to life and assault as other reasons behind her seeking a dissolution of the marriage which had already produced an offspring.

She said: “He lied to me that he is a graduate of Mass Communication from the University of Lagos and that he is financially buoyant, only for me to discover that he is just a school certificate holder without any genuine means of income.”

Responding, her husband Kelechi Nwokonko told the court he was not interested in parting ways with his wife, though he did not dispute the claims she made against him.

Mr. Nwokonko said: “After consultation with my family and pastors on the implications of divorce and the effect it will have on our child, I no longer want to divorce my wife.”

The Court President went ahead to ask if the plaintiff was interested in heeding the plea of the respondent for an amicable solution, to which she refused.

The president then went ahead to dissolve the marriage, citing lack of love and threat to life.
