A housewife, Chibeze Taiwo, on Thursday urged an Osogbo Customary Court to dissolve her eight-year-old marriage to her husband, Chukwu, for alleged threat to burn her alive
Taiwo told the court that she no longer love Chukwu because he wanted her dead.
She said, “I had to quickly pack my loads and leave the house with my children when my husband threatened to burn us alive.’’
Taiwo accused Chukwu, a bricklayer, of not trusting her, adding that her husband had not been giving her rest of mind in their matrimonial home.
She said that her husband constantly beats her and had also abandoned his responsibility in the marriage.
“Due to my husband’s negligence, I lost one out of our three children last year because my husband didn’t pay for his medications.
“Yet, he stills maltreats me and my remaining two children.
“Although I left his house two weeks ago, I want this court to divorce us legally because he now wants me dead,” she told the court amidst tears.
Chukwu was absent during the proceedings.
The court’s President, Chief Nasiru Odelola, adjourned the case till Feb 23 for judgment.
