The Kogi State Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba, has accused Governor Yahaya Bello of endangering his life by allegedly ordering the withdrawal of his security aides.

The Deputy Governor made the claim in a press briefing on Sunday.

He said that he discovered the withdrawal of his security detail when he returned to Lokoja from his village, where he had gone to vote in the Presidential and National Assembly elections that were later postponed.

Achuba said he was left in shock after he came back to his official residence and found no security aides there.

“I was surprised to see that all policemen attached to my house had been withdrawn. I then put a call across to the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Busari, who also expressed shock and promised to give the matter an urgent attention.

“After about an hour, I called him again but he refused to pick my call. I sent a text message to him and up till now, he has not got back to me,” he said.

He said he fell out with the governor because of his insistence that policies must be for the benefit of the people.

However, the media aide to the Governor, Kingsley Fanwo debunked the allegation that Governor Bello ordered the withdrawal of the Deputy Governor’s security aides.

He noted that the governor did not post the security aides there, so he could not withdraw them, urging the Deputy Governor to speak with the Commissioner of Police over any issues with his security aides.

But Achuba called on the Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, to intervene in the matter, accusing the State Commissioner of Police of dancing to Governor Bello’s tune.

However, the Police Commissioner said he had promised the Deputy Governor that he would look into the matter.

Busari said, “He contacted me and I told him I was going to look into it and I am working on it to know what to do.

“I want to contact the ADC to the Governor why the deputy governor’s details were withdrawn. I spoke to the deputy governor, I think this morning, that I was going to do something about.”

The Commissioner disclosed that while it was his job to post policemen to the Government House, it was the ADC’s job to assign them.
