N1 trillion Railway scam: Amaechi denies knowledge of past contracts

Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation has denied any information of the rehabilitation and modernisation of the N1 trillion railway contract awarded between 2010 and 2015.

In an appearance before the Ad-hoc committee of the House of Representatives setup to investigate the use of the railway funds, he said; “I don’t know about the past contracts because I was not in office when it was awarded, but I can talk more on our progress and what we are doing now,”

The Minister of Transportation also told the committee that he had ordered a full audit, the result which will be made public when the report is ready.

Dr. Bello Haliru-Mohammed, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party and former Minister of Defence also appeared before the Committee. Dr. Bello also denied awarding any rail contracts.

Dr. Bello in his defence said; “Please, note that the PPA was in force throughout my tenure as chairman of the board of the corporation,”

It is to be noted that Dr. Bello’s involvement is due to his position as the Board Chairman of the Nigerian Railway Corporation between 2009 and 2011.
