Mrs Iara Oshiomhole, Wife of Edo Governor, on Wednesday in Benin formally launched her pet project, ” We Care Trust.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that more than N137 million was realised at the launch.

According to Mrs Oshiomhole, the decision to embark on the project, which focuses on welfare for orphans, environmental responsibilities and skills acquisition stem from her passion for the vulnerable.

The governor’s wife explained that while growing up, she had the opportunity of travelling with her father who was a seaman and she met with people, mostly vulnerable children.

She noted that on her visit to Nigeria, she observed that the citizens, including the vulnerable among them were naturally happy people.

She also said that these children from her interaction both at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp and orphanages exude love.

Mrs Oshiomhole, however, noted that love could not be one sided but ought to be reciprocated hence the need to float the project and give the children a sense of belonging.

She also explained that the project would focus on the girl-child development as well as encourage environmental responsibility and awareness.

In his remarks, Mr Godwin Obaseki, chairman of the occasion, appreciated Mrs Oshiomhole for embarking on the project.

Obaseki described the project as a structure that would enable every segment of the society to contribute to uplifting the living standard of the vulnerable in the state.

Gov. Adams Oshiomhole, who also spoke, described as laudable the initiative of his wife.

“I am overwhelmed by the initiative; I never thought of such a project, it clearly shows why a wife and indeed a help mate is important to the man, according to the Holy Book.” (NAN)
