The Nasarawa State Judiciary has set up five appeal panels to review 156 judgments delivered by lower courts.

Justice Suleiman Dikko, the Chief Judge (CJ) of the state, stated this on Monday in Keffi, while addressing counsels and litigants during the 2017 second appeal session.

He said that the 156 matters to be reviewed included 100 civil cases and 56 criminal ones.

The CJ explained that out of the 100 civil appeal cases, 81 were old matters, while 19 were new.

“Of the 56 criminal cases, 43 are old ones, while 13 are new,” he added.

Dikko said that Justice John Vicko and Samuel Ayiwulu would preside over Panel 1, while Panels 2 and 3 would be presided over by Justices Aisha Basir and Asmau Mainoma, and Justices James Abundha and Danjuma Oyigbonu.

According to him, Justices Samuel Aboki and Daniel Adek would take charge of Panel 4, while Justices Rose Oji and Haruna Offor would preside over Panel 5.

He warned the judges against corrupt practices, adding that he had set up a machinery to guard against such tendencies.

Earlier, Mr Aliyu Adamu, Chairman, Nigeria Bar Association, Keffi Branch, had commended the CJ for promptly holding the appeal session, and assured him of his colleagues’ full cooperation.

Adamu urged the state government to renovate court rooms in the state to ensure a better environment for judicial operations.
