NASFAT warns traders against exploitation during Ramadan
The Deputy National Missioner of NASFAT, Alhaji Abdulazeez Onike, has advised traders against unnecessary and unjust inflation of prices of food stuffs during the Ramadan.
Onike said this during a news conference by the organisation in Ikeja to announce its programme for this year’s holy month.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Muslims faithful usually observe a 30-day period of fasting during Ramadan.
The cleric told newsmen traders should desist from using substandard t measures and scales to sell to their buyers before, during and after the Ramadan.
“This is against the will of Allah and the tenets of Islam,’’ he said, adding that Islam frowned against any form of corruption.
“Woe to the frauders,” he said.
Also, the National President of NASFAT, Alhahi Kamil Bolarinwa, while delivering his opening speech said that Ramadan was a period of soberness for Muslims of all classes.
Bolarinwa quoted from the holy Quran, Chapter 16, verse 125, to buttress his claim that “ the holy month of Ramadan is a period to preach to Nigerians that there is only one God, who can ensure progress in the nation.
“It is an opportunity for us to invite and re-unite Muslims to the ways of Allah,” he said.
The association’s Ramadan Programme Chairman, Alhaji Remi Adeseun, said the fasting period was a time to give back to society.
Adeseun said the association would continue its welfare programmes of feeding the less-privileged and other charities throughout the month.
He said that NASFAT would also hold a 10-day vigil session starting from 10 days to the end of the Ramadan.
He said that the association would hold a Ramadan lecture where Prof. Tayo Musiliu of the University of Jos, would speak on Zakat, Sadaka and the salary.
He said that the organisation would hold 30 days Iftar, which is feeding of people.
He said that seclusion centres would be set up in Ikorodu and Surulere for Muslim faithful who would want to be separated from the public to concentrate on prayers within the period.
