Members of the Nigerian National Assembly may be getting properties in Abuja which will make every lawmaker pay N2.5 million monthly in mortgage.

According to Punch, the lawmakers are subscribing to the mortgage facility which will afford them the opportunity to own flats in an estate close to Apo Legislative Quarters in Abuja.

The flats based on the mortgage fee stands at N50m for each of the lawmakers with payment spread over a period of 20 months.

The Nigerian Senate at the resumption of plenary on April 4, 2017 had entered an executive session where the mortgage facility plan was discussed behind closed doors.

A Senator who spoke to the news source on the matter said: “An estate developer brought the idea, believing that payment for the facility will be secure, being that members of the National Assembly will have regular income during the two-year payment period. It is a smart move for the developer.”

The Senator further revealed that the mortgage facility is in line with tackling the accommodation problems facing legislators in the country.
