The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has officially banned Nigerian rapper and activist Eedris Abdulkareem’s latest protest track, Tell Your Papa, citing its content as offensive and unsuitable for public broadcast.
In a memo issued Thursday evening and signed by NBC’s Coordinating Director of Broadcast Monitoring, Susan Obi, the commission instructed all radio and television stations in Nigeria to refrain from airing the song.
“The National Broadcasting Commission has identified ‘Tell Your Papa’ by Eedris Abdulkareem, currently trending on social media, as content deemed inappropriate for broadcast,” the memo read. “It is therefore classified as Not To Be Broadcast (NTBB), as it violates Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code by containing offensive content in breach of public decency.”
Released earlier this week, Tell Your Papa has stirred intense reactions online for its direct criticism of Nigeria’s leadership. The song notably addresses President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, urging him to confront his father about the suffering and economic hardship affecting ordinary Nigerians.
