Modibbo Kawu, the Director of the Nigerian Broadcasting Network has been charged to court by the Federal Government over an alleged N2.5bn fraud.
Also involved in the suit were the founder of Pinnacle Communications Limited, Lucky Omonuwa, and Dipo Onifade, its managing director.
According to the Punch, 12 charged were filed following an investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The fraud was said to have taken place following the move by the federal government to switch telephone lines from analogue to digital.
N10 billion had been released by the federal government for this project and the ICPC discovered a high level of corruption.
Kawu was accused of recommending Pinnacle Communications Limited for N2.5 billion which contravened the rules of the White Paper issued by the FG.
Kawu was accused of “recommending to the Minister of Information to approve payment of the sum of N2.5bn to Pinnacle Communications Ltd, a private company owned by Sir Lucky Omonuwa as a ‘seed grant’ under the DigitalSwitch-Over programme of the Federal Government when you knew that the company was not entitled to receive such a grant and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 26(1)(c) and punishable under Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.”
The two parties involved have denied any wrongdoing
