Nicki Minaj, Teyana Taylor Pained Over Several Snubs In Grammy Nominations

2 Min Read

Nicki Minaj and Teyana Taylor have spoken up about how they feel after hearing the songs that have been nominated for a Grammy next year.

Taylor put out a tweet in which she took exception with the fact that there were no female nominees up for this year’s Best R&B Album category. As she wrote, “Y’all was better off just saying best MALE R&B ALBUM cause all I see is dick in this category.”

Also after the nominations were released, Nicki Minaj thought it was a perfect time to remind people that the Recording Academy can be wrong.

Nicki Minaj tweeted: “Never forget the Grammys didn’t give me my best new artist award when I had 7 songs simultaneously charting on billboard & bigger first week than any female rapper in the last decade- went on to inspire a generation. They gave it to the white man Bon Iver.”

This comes after the Grammys ignored Lil Baby’s double platinum album and Roddy Ricch’s Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial.

As it turns out, 2021 will be the first year in which there is no female nominee in that particular category. Note this doesn’t include a separate award for Best Contemporary R&B Album, which was given out from 2003 to 2011, nor does it include the Best Progressive R&B Album, which debuted in 2020 due to a name change of the category formerly known as Best Urban Contemporary Album.

This outrage moved Nicki to urge people not to use this award to validate themselves because she was able to change the world without one.
