NIDO-Qatar & Qatar 2022 signs MoU to promote opportunities for Nigerians in Qatar

The Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation-Qatar (NIDO-Qatar) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), for coordination and cooperation in the Supreme Committee’s action plan ahead of the FIFA World Cup in 2022 – the first to be hosted in the Middle East.

The Qatar 2022 World Cup organizing committee says the MoU signing represents their commitment to involve and engage various communities in Qatar in the activities towards the successful hosting of the 2022 Mundial. The partnership with the Supreme Committee is for coordination and cooperation as part of the SC’s upcoming plans and progress updates on the 2022 FIFA World Cup to its grass roots stakeholders. This outreach initiative will also further strengthen relations with the various Expat communities in Qatar.

The representatives of NIDO-Qatar at the groundbreaking event were Michael J.Asemota (Vice President), Victor Ikoli (General Secretary) and Ekene Osunwoke (Social Secretary).
Speaking at the event that involved about 30 communities, the SC’s Community Engagement Manager, Khalid al Jumaily said: “We need the support of every community and every individual to achieve our goals”.

“Each of the communities represented here tonight has been with us every step of the way.

“ Each of you here tonight will help us welcome the world in 2022”, he said.

“Each of you here has an important role to play. If you live in Qatar, you are part of our journey”, he added.

According to the terms of the partnership, NIDO-Qatar members will be prioritized for recruitment process for Supreme Committee’s community engagement opportunities/ activities.

The memo states that members of the community will be encouraged to partake in volunteer programmes at forthcoming events at which volunteers are required for the Supreme Committee.

Additionally, the Qatar 2022 World Cup organizing committee will support NIDO-Qatar in organizing and conducting workshops, hosting meetings and promoting the community’s activities using their various channels (e.g social media, website and newsletter, etc).

Similarly, the Nigerian community group will also support in promoting the Supreme Committee’s work through its website and social media channels.

The MoU will be instrumental in putting in place mechanism to provide training to NIDO officials/members to enable them speak as ambassadors for Qatar 2022 to their community groups and to the media.

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) wants everyone to be a part of their delivery of stadiums and other infrastructure for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar and the amazing legacy they are creating along the way. That is why they want to involve NIDO-Qatar in every step of the journey.

The SC’s Community Engagement team is tasked with empowering communities to deliver the legacy that is right for them. Through community outreach, arts and culture, education, sports and volunteering initiatives, the team interacts with a diverse array of communities and individuals across Qatar and the region, ensuring their voices are heard.

This is an opportunity to work collaboratively to make the SC’s bold visions a reality, and to provide NIDO-Qatar with the opportunity to contribute to and influence the outcomes which will directly affect our members and the lives of generations to come.

Speaking separately on this milestone event, the NIDO-Qatar President, Mr. Amadi Nwokocha noted that the collaboration between NIDO-Qatar and the SC marks the beginning of constructive engagements by the organized Nigerian community with agencies of the Qatari government aimed at positively impacting our environment. He affirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Expat community in Qatar to continue to contribute to the economic and social development of the host country.

“The signing of the MOU is part of the efforts of the current Executive Council of NIDO-Qatar to rebrand our organization and restore the image and dignity of our dear country, Nigeria and our people resident in Qatar”, he said.
