Professor Wole Soyinka has reacted to the call by the Niger Delta Avengers militants that he be their representatives to negotiate their interest with the Federal Government.

The Nobel laureate in response to the offer rejected the role stating that he had never and at any point agreed to represent the interest of the militant group responsible for several attacks on oil installations in the Niger Delta region.

In a statement issued by Wole Soyinka and made available to SaharaReporters, he said, “I have just seen the release by the NDA that I shall be leading NDA’S negotiating team,

“I wish to make it abundantly clear that I have never at any time agreed to any such mission. My role in this affair has been restricted to advising this movement on realistic approaches to a rational resolution. I have no intention of extending that role.”

Further sponsoring his idea on how best to tackle the crisis in the Niger Delta region, Wole Soyinka said: “I have also insisted on a holistic approach to the recurrent unrest in the Delta, such as addressing such discontent within the context of national restructuring.”
