Niger Govt. Urges NSEMA, NEMA To Provide Relief Materials for Tanker Explosion Victims

The Niger House of Assembly on Tuesday directed the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) to collaborate with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials for victims of a tanker explosion in Kutigi.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the motion was presented on the floor of the House on March 17.

NAN reports that a Committee on Environment was mandated to have an interface with the Director-General of NSEMA to give an update on the plight of the victims of the fire disaster at Kutigi town.

Speaker of the House, Alhaji Abdullahi Wuse, who was represented at the plenary by Alhaji Yabagi Alfa, Deputy Speaker of the House, said the provision of relief materials to the fire victims would ease their suffering.

The speaker also called for adequate provision of funds to enable NSEMA to respond effectively and efficiently to disaster management.

He explained that the committee recommended that legislation should be put in place to address the issues of disaster whenever they occur.
