Hamza Abarah is now the Interim Coach of Nigeria Premier League side Niger Tornadoes of Minna, according to a statement issued by Emmanuel Babur, Commissioner of Sports Development in Niger.

In the statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Babur said the decision followed approval a combined meeting of the Ministry’s Management and that of Niger Tornadoes on Tuesday.

NAN reports that the club’s coach Bernard Ogbe had resigned after their match day 6 encounter in which they lost 1-3 to Katsina United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina on Sunday.

The defeat piled more pressure on the club side who are still languishing at the bottom of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Group A 12 club log.

Tornadoes have been going through turbulent season, having secured only one win in six games, and the pressure forced Ogbe to resign on Monday.

Babur stated that Abarah would serve as interim Coach and Head of Technical crew, adding that he had consulted with Governor Abubakar Bello who gave his nod for the approval.

“The approval is geared towards reinvigorating the team for the task ahead as part of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello’s restoration agenda in sports development.

“Coach Hamza Abarah will oversee the club technical crew as an interim head and I implore the team to work together and give him all the needed support in order to ensure that this club moves to the top of the league table,” he said.

NAN reports that the first assignment of the new interim coach will be against Sunshine Stars of Akure at home on Matchday 7 on Wednesday.

Abarah would be assisted by Atuga Ndanusa as Chief coach and Isaiah and Sule Garuba as Assistant coaches. (NAN)
