Nigeria moves up to 52nd place in latest FIFA rankings

Nigeria has moved up by one spot to occupy the 52nd position in the latest men’s football FIFA/Coca Cola World Rankings.

This is after the country had been rooted to the 53rd place for July and August.

The latest rankings released on October 1st also saw World Cup winners Germany moving up to the second position on the table, one place behind leaders Argentina.

The latest rankings are for coefficients measured in the month of September.

Nigeria added 1 point to accumulate a total of 600 points and move one place behind Egypt who have 620 points.

With this ranking, Nigeria occupies the 10th place on the African continent behind Egypt in 9th (51 in the world), Congo in 8th (49 in the world), Cameroon in 7th (48 in the world), Cape Verde Islands in 6th (41 in the world) and Senegal in 5th (38 in the world).

The top-four ranked teams in Africa are Algeria – 1st (19 in the world), Cote d’Ivoire – 2nd (21 in the world), Ghana – 3rd (25 in the world) and Tunisia – 4th (36 in the world).

According to information made available on the FIFA website, 2010 World Cup winners, Spain moved up 5 places to enter the top ten, sitting at 6th place after three months of being below.

The biggest mover in the top 50 is Norway, moving 35 places to occupy the 34th place.

The next rankings are expected to be published on November 5.
