Nigeria Pays Whistleblowers N439m In One Week

The Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, has disclosed that the Federal Government paid 14 whistleblowers N439 million within the past week.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, she disclosed that the payment to the whistleblowers was for helping the government rake in N13.8 billion from tax evaders.

According to her, the whistleblowers provided useful tips that led to the discovery of the defaulters.

She disclosed that the defaulters were mostly corporate organisations.

Adeosun urged individuals and corporate organisations to take advantage of the omgoing Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS).

The minister disclosed that the Federal Government has been actively preparing cases for prosecution against tax evaders who fail to take advantage of the amnesty period before its expiry at the end of June.

Furthermore, Adeosun disclosed that the data mining efforts of the Federal Government were yielding fruits as 130,000 high net worth individuals and companies that have failed to pay their taxes fully have been identified.
